If you haven't used your chips yet, you've at least thought about it. There are four of them to choose from, and aside from your choice of captain in each week's squad, those chips give you the ability to gain some ground in your league. This post will discuss these chips in brief and then look at how you can use two of them in particular.
The Four FPL Chips:
The first chip is Bench Boost. This chip gives you the ability to play all 15 players in your lineup for one week of your choice.
The second chip is Free Hit. This is the first year of this chip's existence. It gives you unlimited transfers for one week. After that week is over, your lineup will revert to the players you had for the week before your Free Hit chip was played.
The third chip is Triple Captain. For one week, you get triple the amount of points for your captain rather than double like every other week.
The fourth chip is the Wildcard. You get this chip twice per season -- once in each half. This chip gives you an unlimited number of free transfers for one week, as long as they fit in your budget.
How to Use those Chips:
When should you use the Triple Captain chip? Who knows? It's a bit like playing the lottery. You will want to play the matchups, make your pick, and then cross your fingers.
Last week, we mentioned that Gameweek 31 appears to be the one in which the Free Hit should be played. That is the FA Cup quarterfinal weekend, and only 4-5 matches will be played for FPL purposes.
The two chips in our focus for this post are the Wildcard and the Bench Boost. If you are like us, you have either played or strongly considered playing your Wildcard already for the second half of the season. Once you do, I'm sure you've thought about playing your Bench Boost as well.
Unfortunately, the rules don't allow you to play both at the same time. According to the rules, only one chip can be played per gameweek.
But that doesn't mean you can't play them in back-to-back gameweeks. In fact, that might be the best approach. Play your Wildcard one week, and then play your Bench Boost the following week.
Think about why. If you use your Wildcard to reset your lineup, you probably like your entire FPL squad more than ever. For the first time in a long time -- and maybe all year, you probably like your entire squad from 1-15. Take advantage of that. Play your Bench Boost as soon after that as you can.
In fact, even better, strategize the use of your Wildcard so that you like the matchups the following week for your Bench Boost. If you play these two chips wisely, you will give your entire squad a boost toward FPL victory.
